Internet Hârnica |
 |
Okay, I know this is a simple page with no flash and even less style, but
dammit Jim, I'm a programmer, not a graphic designer. Unfortunately, I'm also
a a bit of a perfectionist, so though I won't take a lot of time to make this
index page pretty, I've spent a lot of time making the attached documents look
good.
If you are a player in my Hârn campaign (me being Brian White, Ottawa,
Ontario, Canada -- currently in Zurich, Switzerland), I'd appreciate it if you
didn't go reading through these, especially the original material. Most of it
is not stuff your characters would know and though none of it contains plot
information about the challenges you will face, there is significant background
material that would spoil much of the adventure.
Original Material
These documents should be considered "works in progress". They tend to change/grow every time I
work with them so don't be surprised if you come back in a month (year?) or two and find that
they've been updated in the meantime. Comments and suggestions are always welcome! Please mail me
at bcwhite@pobox.com with any thoughts you may have.
- Deity: (pronounced
"DEE-ity") A role-playing game support engine that supports HarnMaster3.
Version 0.7 has just been released that extends the user interface so
that all commands can be executed with the mouse so you don't have to
remember how to type them all.

- Encyclopedia Hârnica Document Template (Word 2000): [dot]
This is the MS Word document template I've used to create all of the other documents in
Internet Hârnica library. Documents created with this template should look
almost exactly like any of the standard Encyclopedia Hârnica articles. The
files can be printed, punched, and placed in a binder next to any of the pages directly
from Columbia Games. Remember, though, that
this is an evolving piece of work and that means I occasionally go back and update the other
documents with changes I've made to this template.

- HârnMaster Character Profile:
[doc]
[pdf]
[xls]
The first two selections ("doc" and "pdf") are static character profile sheets as seen
throughout Hârn publications. They can be printed and filled in by hand. The last
is an MS Excel spreadsheet for holding all of the information about a character. When
loaded, it will fill in all the stats with random values that you can either keep or adjust as
you see fit; all of the derived stats and abilities will update automatically as you change
the base stats. Random values are generated for medical problems, phyche, and the like but
are not currently converted in to text strings (next revision, possibly). The combat profile
should make armor calculations easy: just put an "X" or a checkmark or anything other than
"blank" in the appropriate cells and the totals will be updated below.

- Hârn Manor Spreadsheet: [xls]
This is the MS Excel spreadsheet I'm using to create some villages for my characters to
explore. It's based on the official
Hârnmanor
information available from Columbia Games. It
will create a random manor which you can then make "permanent" by over-typing a real number
(can be the same number) in place of the randomly-generated values.

- Feirnar:
[doc]
[pdf]
[xls]
This small manorial village resides about a league southwest of Geda,
Chybisa. It's a small, out-of-the way village with a full set of manor
information and characters, some things going on in the surrounding
areas, and even some recent history. Why Feirnar? I wanted a small,
simple place for some characters of mine to start before they venture
out in to the big, bad world. It's still a far cry from the work done
on Kathane Manor (see below), though.

Converted Material
I've converted a number of files found freely around the Internet to the Internet Hârnica
style. I've done my best to include information about the original author in the footer of the
documents; my intention is only to collect and "make pretty" the various Hârn articles that
are available on the Internet. If an author is at all unhappy about finding their work here, please
contact me and I'll remove it immediately. Also, contact me if you find I failed to properly attribute somebody's
work, have more information that you think should be included (like maps), or even whole new
articles that you'd like put in to the Internet Hârnica style. I'm not trying to steal
anybody's work -- merely make it more accessible.
- Blue Bell Inn, The:
[doc]
[pdf]
Written by Jarold W. Holland-Hibbert for
the Inns of Hârn
page, the Blue Bell is situated near the base of the Geda (Chybisa) pier making it a popular stop for
bargemen and other river borne traffic. The inn is also popular with many townfolk and has a
well deserved reputation for drunken brawls and the availability of prostitutes. The name of
the inn originates from a river barge once owned by the original owner. A simple blue bell hangs
from a peg above the main door of the inn and is sounded whenever a vessel docks at the pier.

- Kathane Manor:
[doc]
[pdf]
Written by Aaron Kavli on one of his
RPG pages,
Kathane is the first or last stop between Trobridge and Kaldor. The salt route runs right
through the center of town, and remote Kathane boasts a fairly high level of luxury and
wealth, as well as military power being that it is often used as a garrison for the Chelmarch
army. The village also has some other conventions not normally found in a rural village:
During the caravan season, the manor's economy gets a huge boost from the mercantylers and
guards passing along the Salt Route. Most travelers will stay the night in Kathane as they can
get an early start during daylight to the west, or are in a festive mood having survived the
trip through hostile lands. Some have come to know Kathane as "little Trobridge". Most are
happy to sell goods in Kathane to save on bonding and hawking fees but they know they will
find richer folk in Tashal and better goods for trade. Some merchants will travel to Kathane
from Tashal as well.

- Prices:
[doc]
[pdf]
Written by an unknown author,
the following is a comprehensive price list for Hârn. Many specialized items, such as a
craftsman's tools, are made for personal use and are not for sale. This reduces the number of
items that can have a standard price and hence be included in the list. The prices of a few
services are listed, although these are almost always negotiable.

- Tonot: (missing maps)
[doc]
[pdf]
Written by John Patrick McDonald,
Tonot was a simple outpost/encampment used by a clan Ethelyen during the Tyranny of
Lothrim. In 100 TR, it was used primarily as a safe haven/refugee camp. It is said that after
the sacking of Kelpyn-Anuz, Lotin of Ethelyen led his band of men here for recuperation and
some of his men stayed to establish the permanent settlement. Lotin's Son, Sanric I
established Nurelia, in 125.

- Village Life:
[doc]
[pdf]
Written by John Patrick McDonald.
While most player character's probably left the drudgery of everyday life on the rural manor,
they should be familiar with the social, economic and political issues that are involved with
agriculture. Those characters not familiar with manorial life in the civilized regions of
Lythia, may also find the workings of a small manor or village interesting. Most importantly
from a standpoint of a campaign, the GM should be able to infer the possibilities for numerous
scenarios from the text.
