Hey Brian,
Few comments about your trip. . .

Although sometimes you see less with kids, you do get to see more of one place (if you can keep the kids occupied or keep them entertained - 'hey, let's follow that cat behind into the dark doorway ;-))

Funny how my kids now get tired if we have to walk three blocks . . . maybe they associate the boring part with the walking destination - keep Cristophe's mind off of that for a while.

It was really bad when I was little. It had changed some but not a whole lot when I took you as a child, But I guess like all things change builds upon itself and grows exponentially.

We are thinking of you guys and after reading your blog...feeling a bit guilty about being stressed about our move 2 doors away! We are praying that your transition is smooth and that it really begins to feel like a great adventure and not a "what have we done?" deal!

Hi!
We are never as ready as we thought. Yes, we should have thought of the stroller and the towels and ........... Hope they had dishes and bed ware. When we arrived in India way back, we had beds but no mattress so you’re a step ahead. Not a very comforting comment but things will get better once your baggage arrives and you can hang your personal stuff. That will help make it somewhat like your home in Ottawa ‘but smaller’!!!.
It always takes time to settle in and get adapted to the culture, customs and the neighbourhood. You’ll see what a month will do. The children will likely adapt quicker. As for the cat, it will take him (her) time. Take it a day at a time. Moves are always disrupting, even in Canada when you move from city to city but I must admit that solutions are easier to come by. In a pinch, you can always contact Myriam. She is the Swiss person living in Zurich. I can send you her email. Tell me when your email is up.
Love to be there to help you. Love to all and hugs to F, C and C.

Hey Brian,
A new entry . . . that's great! (always be positive)

Perhaps a little more detail next time would add to the pleasure of tracking your blog entries (OK, too hard to be only positive).

Hopefully all is well and your trip to Zurich with all in tow went off without a hitch.

The drive-through tree was not in Sequoia National Park but rather in Yosemite, some 180km (100 miles) north. Unfortunately, that tree feel over in 1969 after standing, tunnelled, for 88 years. It was approximately 2,100 years old when it fell, 7.9m (26 feet) in diameter, and 71.3m (234 feet) high.

There is a "tunnel log" in Sequoia National Park where a giant sequoia fell across a read in 1937. It is still in use today and is 5.2m (17 feet) wide by 5.2m (8 feet) high. The tree was 6.4m (21 feet) in diameter when it fell. I didn't see it.

It's amazing how the weather can be so different from year to year. I have been there in March in 2001 and I have had a lot of trouble even getting into the park due to heavy snowfall. I tried to capture the snowfall with my first digicam (Kodak 1.3MP):
<a href="http://www.opentravelinfo.com/north-america/bad-weather-in-sequoia-national-park" rel="nofollow"> bad weather in sequoia</a>
I guess you got really lucky :-)

Somewhere at my Mom's is a picture of me as a little girl standing in front of General Sherman. There also used to be a tree ou could drive through.

Glad you're taking the time to see the sights in the area.

Hi
We got home today. Nice to hear how you are doing. Interesting isn't it how the past doesn't really seem like the "good old days" when you have to re-live it.

Take Hwy#1 down the coast. You'll pass the lighthouse above and some other interesting property. It'll take you to Santa Cruz where there are some more beaches (and another lighthouse).

I'm probably going to the Sequoia national park this weekend where the biggest Redwood trees are. About the same distance, but a little more to the North is Yosemite, too.

There's no shortage of beautiful terrain around here -- better than LA, me thinks.
